The Church of St. John the Theologian is located in the Lauš neighborhood of Banja Luka and belongs to the Eparchy of Banja Luka of the Serbian Orthodox Church. Situated on Sanska Street, it serves as a spiritual center for a large number of Orthodox believers in this part of the city. Although it is one of the newer Orthodox churches in Banja Luka, its appearance, architecture, and well-maintained grounds hold a special place among the city's sacred sites.

Construction of the church began after the foundation was consecrated on October 9, 2000, and after nearly a decade of work, the church was formally consecrated on August 2, 2009. Since then, it has become a place for regular services, liturgies, baptisms, weddings, and other significant events in the lives of Orthodox believers.

A special feature of the church is its well-tended grounds, richly landscaped courtyard, and pleasant atmosphere that brings together families, believers, and visitors throughout the year. Thanks to this careful maintenance, the church won first place in the 2023 city competition for the best-maintained religious site in Banja Luka.

The Church of St. John the Theologian is not only a place of prayer but also an important center for the spiritual, cultural, and social life of Lauš. During major Orthodox holidays, it gathers a large number of believers, and through its liturgical life, it preserves the tradition, faith, and identity of the Orthodox people of this region. Its peaceful atmosphere, well-kept surroundings, and distinctive architecture make it one of the most beautiful modern Orthodox churches in Banja Luka.

Saint John the Theologian

The Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian was one of the twelve apostles of Christ and among the closest disciples of Jesus Christ. In Orthodox tradition, he is known as the "Apostle of Love," as his writings place a special emphasis on love for God and one's neighbor. He is the author of the Gospel of John, three catholic epistles, and the Book of Revelation—the final book of the New Testament. According to church tradition, he was the only apostle who did not suffer a martyr's death, but instead lived to a ripe old age while preaching the Christian faith. The Serbian Orthodox Church celebrates his feast day on October 9, when a large number of the faithful visit churches dedicated to this saint to attend the Divine Liturgy and seek his intercessory blessing. Saint John the Theologian is considered the patron of love, wisdom, theology, and the true Christian faith.
